Art Thunderonthegulf started way back in 1997. That first year, only 15 artists joined. They set up their tables in a small park near the beach. Their idea was simple. They wanted to share the art of the Gulf Coast.
Fast forward to today, and the festival now welcomes over 25,000 people each year. It happens during the first weekend of October. The weather is perfect that time of year. The sky is blue. The nights are cool. The sun is gentle. Sometimes, you might even see butterflies flying along the coast.
Today, more than 200 artists come to the festival. They bring all kinds of handmade goods like pottery, paintings, jewelry, clothes, and wooden sculptures. Many of them even do live shows. You can watch them work and ask questions. Some even let you try making something too.
